Study Abroad in PeruStudying Abroad in Peru is available in a variety of different forms.Peru OverviewPeru shares borders with Ecuador, Columbia, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile and the Pacific Ocean. The country has three distinct regions: a narrow coastal belt along the Pacific Ocean, the wide Andean mountains, and the Amazon rainforest. Although the coastal belt is a desert, that is where most of the population lives. Peru is renowned as the land of the Incas, but many great pre-Columbian civilizations flourished. Visitors can see the ancient ruins of the Inca capital of Cusco, and explore the lost city of Machu Picchu as well as ruins from a variety of other cultures, including the Nazca and Moche. Machu Picchu – The lost city of the Incas is a traveler’s fantasy come true. Surrounded by towering majestic snow-capped mountains, the ancient stone city is full of mysterious energy. It is possible to enter the site by the Inca Trail trek, just as the Incas did. Arequipa – A beautiful town in a valley at the foot of El Misti, a perfect conical volcano. Its buildings are built of white volcanic material. Puno – Located on the shore of Lake Titicaca, and considered the center of Peruvian folklore with crafts, festivals and traditional music. Also known for its floating islands with its reed houses and boats. |
