School Facts
The Fundacion CEDEI was founded in 1992 and since 1999 has operated in the United States as the Centers for Interamerican Studies. The Center for Interamerican Studies (CEDEI) is a not-for-profit institution of higher learning, dedicated to the study of languages and cultures of the Americas. To foster understanding among the people of the Americas, CEDEI sponsors a variety of academic activities independently and in conjunction with universities in North and South America. CEDEI is accredited by Ecuador's Ministry of Education and Culture. The semester is divided into two academic terms which enables students to begin with intensive Spanish courses and then choose from: further language courses, an internship or service learning project, or courses from several academic disciplines taught in either English or Spanish by an international faculty.
University FacilitiesLocated in the beautiful colonial heart of the city, just a few blocks from the central plaza, Parque Calderón. The building houses CEDEI’s Department of International Programs and Spanish Language Department, language research center, classrooms, and rooftop student center.
ParticipantsStudy abroad participants from a variety of U.S. universities as well as degree seeking (2-year degree) Ecuadorian students.
AccommodationsStudents will live with Ecuadorian families in homes throughout Cuenca. Living with a host family provides one of the most efficient ways to practice Spanish. Students are included in all family activities, providing integration on a social and cultural level. A private room with 3 meals daily and laundry service is included.Essential Links
