China Teenager Study Abroad
Beijing Summer CampChina is more than a country – it is a whole different world, from shop-till-you-drop metropolises to the epic grasslands of Inner Mongolia, with deserts, sacred peaks, astounding caves, and imperial ruins in between. Along with the stark contrasts comes stark beauty; there is plenty to see if you can wade through the crowds. An ancient capital of six dynasties, Beijing is one of the most famous historical and cultural cities in the world. Temples, parks and historic sites all speak wonderfully and powerfully of the dream that was Old Cathay, but today there’s a new Beijing taking shape... just outside the exquisite walls of Beijing’s monuments, steel and concrete are steadily replacing silk and carved wood. School Facilities: The Beijing campus is based in a local school (Hui Min) in the district of XuanWu, one of the oldest districts in Beijing. The school has classrooms, a computer room with Internet access and outdoor sports facilities that include a 400-meter running track and table tennis. Also located on-site is a campus store where snacks and beverages can be purchased. Students will stay in a dormitory/residence on campus that has shared rooms and bathrooms. Each bedroom has its own phone with private number. Students can receive calls at any time, however must use a calling card to make calls. Laundry service will be provided but students need to wash their own socks and underwear. There are 3 meals/day. Students who extend their trip to include Xian and Shanghai will be housed as a group in three star hotels for each respective city. Activities/Excursions: Activities and excursions are included and guided by English-speaking social leaders who will supervise students at all times. Afternoon activities will take place at the school and students will be able to take their finished articles home. Some activities include: Chinese Knot Making, decorating a Peking Mask and making a Chinese Kite. Every weekend the school organizes trips. The most common destinations are Tiananmen Square, The Great Wall or a visit to a Chinese family. Teens are encouraged to participate in all activities. Lodging & Meals: Dormitory, 3 meals/day Supervision: This is a structured program with daily activities and weekend excursions. Participants will receive daily Mandarin languages classes (ratio 1:15) and Chinese history lessons. An entire team of campus employees including the language teachers will oversee the day-to-day care, activity and learning for each participant. Student participation in extra-curricular activities allows them to spend more time with the other participants. The social leaders are present for activities and accompany participants (ratio 1:10) on the excursions organized off of campus grounds. Local Chinese teenagers are also invited to interact with participants during activities. The Center Manager is present daily to supervise the staff and ensure a safe and active learning environment for all camp participants. The main gate of the campus is locked every night at 10:00pm; all students must adhere to this curfew. Students can also opt to extend their Chinese experience by taking an extra week and traveling to the famous cities of Xian (to discover the wonder of the terracotta soldiers) and Shanghai. The language instructor and school staff also monitors these trips. To/From School:
