The movie "Before Night Falls" is about the life of Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas based on his own memoirs. Director Julian Schnabel creates a beautiful film that often comes across as a documentary of sorts. The film touches on Arenas’s childhood but focuses on the years when Arenas was being persecuted both for his literary works as well as his homosexuality. Under Castro’s regime, Arenas was considered a counter-revolutionary and after spending time in jail for doing nothing more than publishing his poetry, he fled to New York City with his lover. "Before Night Falls" delivers a strong and poignant message about many things that are often taken for granted. It is a movie that I highly recommend for everyone to see.
