A tall, lean knight on his steed followed closely by his short squire atop his donkey…everywhere you go in Spain you are sure to see t-shirts, figurines, posters and such of this image. Most people, even those who have not read the book, already know that it is Don Quixote and his loyal squire Sancho Panza. Written by Miguel de Cervantes, the characters are a part of Spanish history and culture. Although the size may appear overwhelming, the tales of the chivalrous and often confused knight-errant will have you laughing out loud. It is also a useful piece of Spanish history as it includes insight to Spanish society during the height of the empire. I definitely recommend The Adventures of Don Quixote as a great way to further one’s knowledge of Spain, as well as to amuse oneself with the mis-adventures of the knight who set out to right the wrongs of the world.
