There once was a young Spanish shepherd that decided to follow his re-occurring dream of distant treasure. This journey proved to be more difficult for the young boy than first expected. Along the way he is faced with many obstacles and encounters characters that offer advice and insight into the ways of the universe. This is the story, or rather fable, that Brazilian author Paulo Coelho tells in his book El Alquimista (The Alchemist). This fable teaches the reader a very powerful lesson; the heart does not suffer when it is following a dream. Coelho writes about listening to one’s heart, following dreams, and learning to interpret the meaning of omens in one’s life. I found this book to be inspirational, and often re-read certain passages that I felt related to different stages of my own life. I think this is a book every one should read at least once.
