Get an Edge in the Job MarketStudying abroad is a great way to set yourself apart when looking for a job, and it’s not just for college students! There are a wealth of programs available for professionals of all ages to strengthen their language skills in specialized areas tailored to their business or profession. For example, Spanish for Law Enforcement is an ideal program for law enforcement professionals who need to use Spanish for their job, especially police, firefighters, EMS, border control, 911 dispatchers, and corrections officers. Set in Oaxaca, Mexico, this city is a good fit for this program because law enforcement officials here have a similar job compared to many officials in American cities. Oaxaca, while in many ways a traditional Mexican city, has many of the same characteristics as a lot of American cities. Participants in this two-week program learn vocabulary and common expressions related to law enforcement. Programs are offered in many different languages and the minimum language level varies by program. For example, Arabic for Media & Journalism and Italian for Fashion both require a High-Intermediate level of their respective languages, due to the highly specialized nature of the programs. Courses such as Arabic or French for Diplomatic Relations, and Chinese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish for Specific Purposes are offered in Low- or Mid-Beginner levels of the respective languages. The Specific Purposes courses are ideal for professionals who have a need to learn a language for purposes not currently offered through other specialized programs. Examples include marketing, advertising, or PR professionals. For more information on all of AmeriSpan’s Business and Professional Programs, click here or download our catalog here. |
