Tres Leches means 3 milks and gets its name from the 3 different kinds of milk added to make the cake. It is a popular dessert in many Latin American countries.
Ingredients:
5 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup self-rising flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 can sweet condensed milk (14oz)
1 can evaporated milk (12 oz)
1 cup milk
3 egg whites
1 can peaches (optional)
Directions: (There are 3 parts to this recipe)
Part I: Cake
Preheat oven to 350F
Grease and flour an 8 x 12 pan
Separate 5 eggs and beat the whites in a large mixing bowl
Continue beating and 1 cup of sugar to the egg whites
Add the yolks one at a time
Add 1 tsp vanilla
Sift the flour into the mixture
Pour the mixture into the pan and bake for 20 minutes
Allow the cake to cool
Part II: Syrup
Blend the sweet condensed milk, evaporated milk, regular milk, and 1 tbsp vanilla together
Pour this mixture over the cooled cake
Part III: Merengue frosting
Beat 3 egg whites to peaks
Add 1 cup of sugar
Beat to stiff peaks
Stir in 1 tsp vanilla
Frost the cake
